Oak frame building Double Hammer Beam Hall

On the other side of the Channel, oak timber takes a big place in the heart of our British neighbors.

Renovation of old houses or old barns refurbishments are not sufficient to make fulfil the big demand of oak houses or outbuildings where oak beams are well visible. For this reason, Oak construction works for houses, conservatories or garages are quite usual.

The “Double Hammer Beam Hall” project, designed and buit by Norton Timber, Shephedrswell Nr Dover, needed about 200 pieces what means 32 m3 of green oak, sourced by the Company Morgan & Co Ltd in Strood. The huge number of braces have been cut in naturally bent pieces, that Grouazel sawmill always keeps apart for this kind of jobs, in order to have the best resistance thanks curved grain following the brace shape.
